Course Objectives

By the end of the course, we will be able to:

  1. have a sense for the underlying philosophical and political structures that have and continue to sustain public libraries
  2. have a feel for the place of the public library in the community, and in our own communities
  3. think critically about some of the challenges facing public libraries in today's environment
  4. understand how to articulate the need for specific public library services
  5. feel confident in our abilities as public library supporters, sustainers, and enthusiasts
