Brown Bag Lunch: Archives Power
Date: Monday, February 3, 12:30pm to 1:30pm
Location: Manning 208

SCOSAA's Brown Bag Lunches are a chance for us to get together and talk about issues in archives. Designed to be an open discussion, with a starting point but no planned end point, it is our hope that this might be a place for our shared interests and passions to percolate. Everyone is invited.

The first topic is inspired by Jimerson's 69th Presidential Address to SAA in 2005 (found here) In it, he urges us to "accept the solemn obligation to use the Force for good and not for evil. Let us ensure that archives protect the public interest rather than the privileges of the powerful elites in society. May our archival temples truly reflect values worthy of veneration and remembrance. May our archival prisons minimize locks and security and emphasize accountability, preservation and access. May our menus be clear and understandable, and our table service efficient, thorough, and helpful."

Questions abound. How might we heed this call? What might it means to be an Archivist Activist in today's society? Ideally, what is our responsibility? Practically, what can we do? Does it start now, or when we get jobs? Let's think and discuss!
