You can choose to remove data from view and, most of the time, you can still use it. For example, you can sort by the values in a hidden column, but you cannot display hidden data on a chart linked to the sheet with the source data.
You can hide or unhide columns in your spreadsheet to show just the data that you need to see or print. For example, you may use data in hidden spaces as factors in formulas or functions, but you may not need to display these factors to the users.
