Information Management for Organizational Effectiveness
Understanding Technology and Organizations
The purpose of this assignment is to individually consider how you view the impact of changing technologies on your career future.
TASK
Ten percent of the grade for this class will come from a report that displays your understanding
of the role of technology and the organization
We have wandered around the topic of the impact of technology and information, but haven't settled on any particular understanding.
Let's use this final report to do just that.
You all have lots of experience with new technologies and some experience working within organizations.
And many of you all have a lot of experience using ChatGPT-like tools in your lives, both academic and non-academic.
We have introduced one article per week on thoughts about generative AI, and they should give you something to start your thinking.
Your task is to argue either that pessimism about technology change is to be considered, or that optimism is the new reality.
Use your own experiences using and incorporating technology into your lives and work to inform your discussion.
To inform your discussion, pick at least one of Our daily throught-provokers and use it to support your argument.
If none of them work to support the argument you want to make, take a look at a lot more articles on the topic
and choose at least one of them to support your points.
CONDITION
This task should be done by your group and your group should turn in a single presentation
that reflects the agreed position of your group as an introduction,
but, importantly,
each group members voice must be heard in the posting,
so craft a presentation in which each member of your group gets at least one slide to narrate.
To accomplish this task,
you may submit a direct response in the Canvas assignment space.
Alternatively, you may share a link to a cloud stored .pptx file that your group used to use to answer the requests in the task.
STANDARD
| Grade |
What it means |
A description of what it means |
A 9.50 or better |
Mastery in articulating why we should be either optimistic or pessimistic about the future,
at the highest level of attainment that can reasonably be expected
|
A well-articulated discussion of the topic, well narrated in a professional voice showing
mastery in understanding topic and not at all sounding like someone reading something created by a generative AI tool
|
A- 9.20 to 9.49 |
A totally acceptable performance demonstrating an adequate level of understanding |
An insightful discussion of the topic; a well-articulated, well-illustrated discussion.
It is extremely good,
but leaves the reader feeling that your understanding of the issues is perhaps a bit dirivitive in terms of articulation,
and maybe a bit too dependent on generative AI assistance.
|
B+ 8.70 to 9.19 |
|
Really good, but perhaps a bit shallower in terms of your making your points
|
B 8.30 to 8.69 |
|
Good, but perhaps a bit generic in your arguments
|
B- 8.00 to 8.29 |
|
Good, but not as good as it could have been.
|
C+ 7.60 to 7.99 |
A marginal performance. |
OK, in terms of grasping the essentials, but not good in terms of articulating your understanding in a manner
that is easy to understand and appreciate
|
C 7.20 to 7.59 |
|
A disconnected, variable, discussion leaving the impression that the speakers didn't really try very hard.
|
C- 7.00 to 7.19 |
|
It's time to start wondering if you missed something important, if you misunderstood the task, if you did not understand the key elements
|
D+ 6.60 to 6.99 |
|
This is a warning that you are not currently on the right path;
but it might be too late in the semester to have a discussion with the instructor about this performance
|
D 6.00 to 6.59 |
|
There are indications that you were present and that you sort of grasped what we had discussed,
but missed the key points to such a degree that you really need to re-group and catch up
|
F less than 6.00 |
For whatever reasons, an unacceptable performance |
If it's unacceptable, it is unacceptable; it should be as obvious to you as it is to the instructor |
