Information Management for Organizational Effectiveness

Understanding the Culture of an Organization

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your sense of understanding an organization in terms of its observed (or perceived) culture.

TASK - Understanding a Common Organizational Culture

Ten percent of the grade for this class will come from a visual, narrated presentation that displays your understanding of organization cultures

Discuss the organizational culture of an organization you are familiar with, in terms of this section's readings and discussions. As a group, decide on one organization and use it as an example for the discussion.

You may consult additional sources as you wish, but if you do, remember to include the citations in a bibliography at the end of your paper. Your paper will be evaluated according to your understanding of one organization in terms of the topics we have covered in lectures.

  1. Describe the organization and the culture that is embedded in the organization. Some of you may not feel that you know an organization well enough to do this, but at least one member of your team will have some experience and can educate you on the organization they know.
  2. Pay attention to the rituals and symbols. Include in your report one or more images of items that inform the viewer of the organizational culture. It can be attire, symbols, logos, architecture, ... anything.

CONDITION

This task should be done by your group and your group should turn in a single product that reflects the agreed position of your group.
This single presentation should be an image-heavy, self-running, narrated PowerPoint presentation of at least five, but no more than ten minutes in length. The voices of all the members of the group should be heard on the presentation

To accomplish this task, you may submit a direct response in the Canvas assignment space.

Alternatively, you may share a link to a cloud stored .pptx file that your group used to use to answer the requests in the task.

9.20 to 9.49
A totally acceptable performance demonstrating an adequate level of understanding the individual in terms of identity, ethics, and loyalty An insightful discussion of the topic; a well-articulated, well-illustrated discussion. An insightful discussion of the topic; a well-articulated, well-illustrated discussion. Really good, but perhaps a bit shallower in terms of your understanding one or more of the contexts; you may not have used relevant examples to explain your points; you may not have fully addressed all the elements requested
B
8.30 to 8.69
An insightful discussion of the topic; a well-articulated, well-illustrated discussion. Good, but perhaps a bit shallower in terms of your understanding several variants of the contexts; you may have several grammatical issues in your writing; your graphis may not have well-supported your points; you may not have fully addressed all the elements requested; you did not use terminology that we discussed in the module sessions
B-
8.00 to 8.29
Good, but not as good as it could have been; you may not have fully addressed all the elements requested
C+
7.60 to 7.99
A marginal performance. Looked too much like a typical Canva/Google Slides presentation, and not enough like a clear, crisp, professional presentation. The viewer can easily be under the impression that the components of the task had been parceled out to group members, and then stiched together for the submission.
or
OK, in terms of grasping the essentials, but not good in terms of articulating your understanding in a manner that is easy to understand and appreciate
C
7.20 to 7.59
A disconnected, variable, discussion leaving the impression that the components of the task had been parceled out to group members, and then stiched together for the submission.
or
You seem to understand the essential points of the module, but you did not articulate your understanding well enough to do more than the minimum
C-
7.00 to 7.19
It's time to start wondering if you missed something important, if you misunderstood the task, if you did not understand the key elements
D+
6.60 to 6.99
This is a warning that you are not currently on the right path; you might need to have a discussion with the instructor about this performance
D
6.00 to 6.59
There are indications that you were present and that you sort of grasped what we had discussed, but missed the key points to such a degree that you really need to re-group and catch up
F
less than 6.00
For whatever reasons, an unacceptable performance If it's unacceptable, it is unacceptable; it should be as obvious to you as it is to the instructor
