Most of these journals can be found on the UNC campus or on the web in full text.  If there is not a physical location listed, there is a link to an informational web site, and subscription to the journal may be appropriate for the art museum studies student.  Since this is just a sampling, in addition to the following, many more art and museum related serials are indexed on the electronic E Indexes and Databases offered through UNC-CH.  (See next section)

Sloane ~ 1st floor serials

This is a monthly publication devoted to art in America, as the title states.  Within each issue is a review of books and a review of exhibitions, as well as articles, editorials and current issues. 

AVISO. Washington, DC: American Association of Museums.

Aviso is an informative newsletter issued 12 times a year. It provides up-to-date information on AAM activities and services, federal legislation affecting museums, upcoming seminars and workshops, federal grant deadlines, the AAM annual meeting, and ICOM (International Council on Museums) news. Aviso is also the museum professional's job bank. Each issue has an average of 125 job advertisements as well as a marketplace ad section, which lists museum-related goods and services. AAM members receive Aviso, but it also is available by subscription for $40 a year. Aviso Employment Resources Online features listings from the newsletter. (Source: AAM web site)

Journal of Museum Education. Washington DC: Museum Education Roundtable

Published three times a year, this journal is devoted to the theory and practice of museum education. The articles explore such topics as learning theory, visitor evaluation, teaching strategies and the responsibilities of museums as public institutions.

This is a quarterly publication (four times a year) and is available online.  With subject headings of art and history, this journal “offers information about the many aspects of museum life: collections, exhibitions, community outreach programs, and profiles of unusual institutions and personalities.” (Source: Serials Directory)

Museum News [serial] . Washington DC: American Association of Museums

Sloane ~ 1st floor serials

This is a publication of the American Association of Museums (AAM), and it is published semi-monthly (6 issues a year). “Museum News is an award-winning, four-color magazine that is the primary forum for the discussion of issues facing the museum community. The magazine includes articles about museum management, curatorship, marketing, culture touring, funding, security, ethics, and politics. Readers will find practical information as well as philosophical debate. Museum News accepts commercial advertising and is a primary source of product information for the museum community.”(Source: vendor web site)

Museums Journal. London: The Museums Association.

This is a monthly publication of the Museums Association in the UK. It is “the leading source of information on everything happening in the museum sector. Every month it includes news, views and profiles as well as features on working practices, museum politics and ethical debates.” (Source: vendor web site)
There are exhibition and book reviews, along with information on new products, courses, training and twice monthly recruitment pages.
