Tools for Information Literacy
Task ① BASICS
Task 01 will set up our environment for storing future tasks.
Perform a series of small tasks to show your understanding of basic concepts and to prepare your environment for tasks to come.
Task Components
Discussion posting 01a | prepare to share with the class
Use the discussion function in Canvas to create a posting introducing yourselves
Task 01b | stay in touch with current news
Sign up for two newsletters and submit them in your Canvas Assignments
Task 01c | client skills - download and install software
Set up your Virtual Private Network connection by going to VPN Installation and Clients. Log in there and install the VPN client on your personal computers so you may use it to communicate with UNC servers when you are operating outside of the UNC network.
Task 01d | server skills - command line
Demonstrate some basic server operating system command line functional skills by using Terminal to create a directory in your public_html space on Opal
Task 01e | install a SecureFTP tool
Using either ITS's software distribution site or any other tool that you prefer, download and install an SFTP tool compatible with your personal laptop and the UNC servers
Task 01f | install a text editor
Depending on your OS and your preferences, install a text editor on your laptop.
Condition
Discussion posting 01a will be a Canvas forum posting.
Task 01b will be included in first Canvas forum posting.
Task 01c will be a screenshot added as an attachment in the assignment in Canvas.
Task 01d will be a URL of your protected directory on Opal in a response to the assignment in Canvas.
Task 01e will be a screenshot added as an attachment in the assignment in Canvas.
Task 01f will be a screenshot added as an attachment in the assignment in Canvas.

These first tasks are individually small and discrete, and are worth a percentage of the total task 01 grade
