The entry follows the linear path from the early gods of the Rig

mythology of the Puranas, Buddhist and Jain mythology, finally to

In the foreword, Brunel states that "literature is the true
repository of myth" (xii). The entry on Indian myths in world
literature discusses the impact that Hindu mythology has had on
Indian literature, film, music, and dance. Although most of this
resource had a euro-centric focus, the areas addressing Indian
mythology are richly discussed.

culture, concepts in creation, and geographic location. The entry
on Indian creation provides cross-references to related topics;
other entries related to Hinduism include Bramahan, Rig Veda, and
Upanishads. This illustrated work also contains a detailed index
and bibliography.

various cultures. It provides detailed summaries of myths, and
lists attributes associated with gods, goddesses, characters, and
monsters. It offers cultural and ethnic indexing in addition to
the general index, and contains a list of variant spellings. This
is a wonderful source to examine Hindu myths in the context of
other cultures.

This is an excellent dictionary of Hindu concepts, tracing the
origin of a concept, its evolution, and how other cultures may
have influenced it. It also includes significant characters from
mythology. Special features include a brief Sanskrit/English
glossary, map of ancient India, and pronunciation guide.
