Goals and Objectives of the Course

Goals of the Class: Doc Shop is an open seminar. The primary goal of the seminar is to create a research and teaching learning community for the doctoral students.

Specific Objectives: At the end of the eight-session seminar, participants will:



Demonstrate a more critically reflective stance toward their current research knowledge and teaching skills.

Show willingness to incorporate additional best practice teaching and research strategies.

Demonstrate willingness to provide and receive effective constructive feedback to other seminar participants.

Readings and Other Resources

No textbook is required. Links to relevant readings and videos will be provided. Check the "Resources" section of the class website. A particularly valuable journal with articles related to educatin and teaching practice in our field is:
Journal of the Association for Library and Information Science Education
Seminar participants should seek out likely readings and other materials to share.

Assignments and Grading

Participants are expected to attend the seminar sessions and to engage in the discussions sharing experiences and providing and receiving constructive feedback on the experiences. Those who are teaching this semester and who are registered for INLS 889 should maintain a log (or blog) of their teaching experiences. Relevant postings on the blackboard discussion forum will be required as well.

Registered students who attend and participate as requested will receive a high pass for the course.
