Table II-2-a-2
Fall 2001
Albany |
ISP 100 Internet and Information Access enrolls 448 undergraduates,
mostly freshmen and sophomores (as part of the university’s general education
curriculum). ISP 301 Information
Environment enrolls 120 undergraduates, mostly sophomores. ISP 523N Networking Essentials – lecture
class with 54 graduate and advanced undergraduate students. |
Florida State |
The over 50 data is potentially misleading because it contains
enrollment data for web-based courses that do not use section numbers in a
traditional manner. Instead of using
sections to indicate numbers of students in a classroom, here sections
indicate routes of enrollment. |
Illinois |
One of the core M.S. courses meets as a large lecture section that includes
all M.S. students who entered in the summer and fall semesters. It also has seven small discussion
sections that are not reflected here.
Also, one of the required courses for the undergraduate minor in
information technology studies has a large lecture section with three smaller
discussion sections. |
Indiana |
L401 course – each section has a lab component with smaller numbers
(Bloomington – L401 = 70; Indianapolis – L401 = 52). |
McGill |
Courses over 50 students are required courses that all MLIS students
must take as part of their MLIS degree. |
Michigan |
Both foundations courses (501, 504) had two sections; each section had
more than 50 students. Course 682, User Interface Design, had 61 students. |
North Texas |
The courses with >50 enrolled are all introductory courses for the
various programs available. |
Pittsburgh |
Courses with more than fifty students are introductory courses,
required courses, or prerequisite courses. |
Rutgers |
501 is Orientation for new students.
It is designed to fit all new students each semester. 502 is the Colloquium series, designed to
accommodate all who register. 530 is
designed to be a large lecture and then splits into smaller groups for lab
work. |
South Carolina |
Four televised courses have enrollments of >50. Three of these are required core
courses. The fourth is a requirement
for school library media certification and has enrollments in three states. |
Texas |
180J, Introduction to Information Studies, is predominantly web-based
and required for all new students in the first semester. 322T, Children’s Literature (undergraduate
