First, let's think about where we have been by looking at a short video together
Consider what you see in this video in terms of:
individual identity within an organizational structure
organizational culture
leadership - both individual and organizational
impact of technology - this may come from the framing of the video prior to the viewing
Does it relate to what we have been doing here since August?
Consider five main points we covered
organizations are complex systems made up of many individuals
and each individual within an organization contributes their identity and decisions to
the organization's overall identity and impact
understanding the theoretical bases for organizational culture, structure, and leadership,
to empower individuals to be more effective within an organization and within their professional lives
an organization's culture, structure, and leadership impacts the choices it makes and
the kind of organization it tries to be
technology has provided improved tools for organizations to use as they engage with information,
but one needs to understand them in context
information technology professionals are in high demand,
and they bear a significant responsibility to behave ethically in their personal and organizational lives
unethical organizational behavior, intentional or inadvertant,
carried out by individuals, intentionally or inadvertantly,
brings signficant risk to public health and safety
Five questions
what other things did we learn about how organizations operate?
what do organizations depend on to be successful and effective?
and can they be one without the other?
how can we guage an organization's effectiveness?
how does technology contribute to an organization's effectiveness?
what kinds of technology specifically do this?
how can you all contribute to this effectiveness?
We'll also take the time to help the organization by filling out the class evaluation forms.
As your courses come to a close, SILS is beginning to prepare and improve for the following semester.
We ask each one of you to be a part of this process by filling out the UNC/SILS Course Evaluation.
Each of you should have gotten an individual email with a link to the evaluations.
If you are having trouble accessing the course evaluations there are three alternate ways you can access them:
SILS Teaching Evaluation
The responses to this questionnaire are aggregated and then distributed to the instructor of the course,
but only after grades have already been submitted into ConnectCarolina.
They are seen by no one else at SILS except for the instructor and their direct supervisors.
They are intended solely to help instructors to improve this particular course or their teaching in general.
In order to serve that purpose, we need to hear from each of you.
There are three ways students can access the evaluations if they are having trouble using the direct link in the email they get:
In Canvas: In the left hand menu on the main landing page, you should see a link to Blue CourseEval
In Connect Carolina: In your student center you should see a separate section that says COURSE EVALUATIONS
Go to https://blueeval.unc.edu/blue and log in using your onyen and your onyen password. When you log in you should see a list of evaluations you need to complete.
There is a time deadline to complete your course evaluations,
but the sooner you can complete this small task, the better the task will be completed.
