Journals
As a writer critically acclaimed
in many circles—feminist, post-colonial, modernist, post-modernist,
ethnic, even literature generally—Jean Rhys is a common topic in many
scholarly journals. The journals below have each published several articles
about Rhys within the past few years. All are conveniently accessible from
Davis floor 7 or, for recent editions, online with a UNC affiliation.
- Callaloo: A Journal
of African-American and African Arts and Letters. Ed. Charles Henry
Rowell. Baltimore, MD: University of Virginia, Charlottesville, 1977 –
(quarterly).
At first glance, Callaloo—with its focus on Africans
and African-Americans—seems an unlikely source for articles about
the white Jean Rhys. But her birth in the West Indies, as well as her literature
about Caribbean and Post-Colonial themes, makes her a frequent subject of
the magazine.
