Alfred Hitchcock, His Life & Work

Known and admired by colleagues, critics and the general public, Alfred Hitchcock was one of the most enigmatic and talented Hollywood directors of his time. Born in London on August 13, 1899, he launched his career in 1927 during the silent film era. However, Hitchcock's cinematic work during the following five decades established him as the finest director of a film genre that bears his own name: the "Hitchcockian suspense thriller". Characterized by inventive plot, red herrings, witty dialogue, and tricky technical facility, all of his films also include an inimitable feature: his cameo appearance. Hitchcock, who achieved knighthood in 1980, had directed almost seventy films during the course of his career. He died on April 29, 1980.
