If that isn’t enough to think about...
If your needs are really just for a Web server, FTP server, etc. then Unix may be the best bet of all.
- Low-end Unix servers are not much more expensive than PC servers
- There are free versions of Unix such as “Linux” that work nicely on PC’s and are GREAT Web and FTP servers. They even perform well on hardware that would never be capable of running NT well.
BUT, Unix is a whole new ballgame….
- You’ll need a Unix expert, Unix is not easy to learn and administer, and it ain’t NT - you’ll find no GUI to help you! Then again, Linux has GREAT free support.
