Summer 2001
|
Assignment Due: July 18.
Preparation. Please read Chapter 9, "Methods" from Miner, et al. It is short but has good examples of time and task charts.
Narrative. This is the easiest part of the proposal to write. Here you simply describe what you will do to accomplish your objectives. Write a straightforward summary in one or two pages and label it Work Plan for (name of your project). Post the URL to the WebBoard on the WorkPlan Bulletin board.
Resource Requirements. These include, for example,:
Make a list of your resource requirements and label it Resource Requirement for (name of project). Post the URL to the Work Plan Bulletin Board.
- the number and level of people involved in the project (include consultants, GAs, volunteers, advisory board members, as well as regular staff). Anticipate the amount of time each will need (in hours, weeks, or months)
- materials and equipment necessary for the project, e.g., software, hardware, books or other materials that have value past the life of the project
- the kind and amount of space needed and whether it is available or must be acquired through rent, purchase, or renovation
- contracted services, if applicable. If you plan to outsource some part of the work or use a service to accomplish a task, include it here
- travel for either staff or participants, if you plan to assist them. Include both local and travel to conferences, sites, or other purposes.
- communication -- telephone installation (if needed) and service, postage, shipping
- expendable supplies
- publicity and publication -- Advertising, printing of flyers, reports, programs, and the like.
- promotion -- Special events, receptions, entertainment
Note: Your resource list will eventually be incorporated into your budget and is only a draft at this point to jot down what you will need as you describe the project.
Time and Task Chart. Use either the Time and Task Chart example provided here or a different format from Miner or one of your own devising. Identify the 3-5 major milestones (evidence that a task has been accomplished) and the time interval during which each one will take place. Label it Time and Task Chart for (name of project). Post the URL to the Work Plan Bulletin Board.
Note for 1/2 Unit Folks. You will incorporate a much abbreviated summary of the main tasks necessary to do your project in the order in which they will be done. This will form a part of your letter proposal and does not have to be submitted separately. You will need to identify the resources required (people, equipment, space, etc. -- see list above) but can include in your methods paragraphs and in the budget. You may wish to append a Time and Task Chart showing milestones as checkpoints. It's up to you.
