USEFUL WEB SITES FOR MARKETING STUDENTS

Ad*Access. . "The Ad*Access Project, funded by the Duke Endowment "Library 2000" Fund, presents images and database information for over 7,000 advertisements printed in U.S. and Canadian newspapers and magazines between 1911 and 1955. Ad*Access concentrates on five main subject areas: Radio, Television, Transportation, Beauty and Hygiene, and World War II ..."

Ad Council. As a private non-profit institution, the Ad Council creates public service campaigns on issues like education, public health, community well-being, environmental preservation and strengthening families. An attractive and well-designed site.

Ad Critic. A really fun site consisting of an index to film clips of many of the ads seen on TV.

Advertising World. A set of links to topics related to adverttising and marketing. Many links are of directory type but others link to useful content. See, for example, the link to Media Planning and Buying.

American Marketing Association. The major professional association for marketers. The AMA publishes eight major journals: Marketing News (online version available by subscription), Marketing Management, Marketing Research, Marketing Health Services, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing Online.

BtoB; Advertising Age's Newspaper of the Marketing Revolution. Possibly overly business oriented for LIS folks but does provide price information for web activities, examples of what works, news on e-commerce, etc.

CreatAbiliToys - Museum of Advertising Icons. A collection of over 650 advertising icons. The website is fun to play with.

Cyberscan; Internet Clipping Service. Well, here's a job for you. This company provides clipping services to folks interested in tracking issues, products, public opinion, and other information on-line.

Library Media and PR. Produced by ALA. "Strategies, techniques, resources, tips & tools for library communicators." Some great images yours for the taking.
Mental Engineering (Public TV show). Information about a series that seeks to deconstruct television commercials and what they tell us about human nature.

Nielsen Media Ratings. Site tells how ratings are established. Lists available reports and prices (at least one was free last time I looked but most cost between $15 and $50.)

paintedcow.com. A Yahoo-like site with links to all sorts of advertising and marketing-related sites plus a joke or two. Check under research for sites dealing with demongraphics and segmentation, for example.

PR-Talk! Shop. Another american Library Association site with links to press releases, tips and how-to tutorials.

PRIZM Lifestyle Segmentation System. Check out this system. Take the survey and look about the demographic clusters of your neighbors. Produced by Claritas -- a commercial company.

Product Maestro. A lot of material about branding. Good information at link to Creativity Web; Resources for Creativity and Innovation.

Survey Research Center. From Princeton University, a comprehensive web site of links to "everything useful on the web useful for the practice of survey research." Includes Poll and Survey Findings, Market Research, Other Survey research centers.

Syllabits - Marketing. Links to syllabi from various kinds of marketing courses. Fun to look and compare. Yours truly not listed (by choice).

Telemarketing Resource Directory. Many links and useful information on telmarketing. University of Illinois Advertising collections. Two of the many great advertising collections at the University of Illinois are highlighted here on a website organized and designed by librarians.

VALS (Values and Lifestyles) categorizes adult consumers into mutually exclusive groups based on their psychology and several key demographics. You can take the survey to see if you are an actualizer, fulfilled, achiever, experiencer ... or a struggler.

Web Marketing & E-Commerce. Requires subscription but no fee attached. Billed as "the largest collection of materials on e-commerce (selling products directly over the Internet)." Electronic newsletter: Web Marketing Today.. See Web Marketing Information Center, a guide to over 500 online articles about online marketing. ... and all of it seems to stem from one man, Mr. Wilson (Wilson Internet).
