Net Etiquette

  • Since many of the “signals” denoting attitude and feeling are missing in a text-based environment, great care must be exercised in the heat of discussion to make sure that we signal textually what we would normally signal through body language or tone of voice.

  • Treat others exactly as you would like them to treat you–with respect (no “flaming”).

  • Honor each other’s opinions.

  • Forgive minor infractions of net etiquette by those just learning to use this environment–you were once there too.

  • Try to keep private conversations private by using the chat rooms and not the environment’s bulletin board.
