Bibliographies
Bibliographies guide researchers
to reliable information sources. Unfortunately, there are only two widely published
bibliographies of Jean Rhys, and both are painfully outdated. They are included
here because they do include valuable information, but the researcher should
almost certainly find sources more recent than those included here. Small
but helpful bibliographies are often found at the end of critical articles
or in the form of online pathfinders such as this one.
- Jacobs, Fred Rue. Jean
Rhys, Bibliography. Keene, CA: Loop Press. 1978.
This slim, 33-page volume is little more than a typewritten and hastily
bound manuscript, but it is remarkably comprehensive (as of 1978) and is
arranged into useful structures: Introduction; Works by Jean Rhys; Translations
by Jean Rhys; Works about Jean Rhys; Selected Reviews (grouped by General
and by Title); and Manuscript Materials.

- Mellown, Elgin W. Jean
Rhys: A Descriptive and Annotated Bibliography of Works and Criticism.
New York: Garland, 1984.
Introduced by a helpful 21-page biographical sketch of Rhys, this bibliography
is especially useful because of its annotations. An index facilitates finding
information within the six broad categories: Books; Contributions to Books;
Contributions to Periodicals; Translations by Jean Rhys; Adaptations of
Works by Jean Rhys; and Writings about Jean Rhys.
