1.        Arizona — In the wake of a University wide fiscal crisis the University substantially raised tuition. SIRLS created a business plan which included a program fee for all admitted Masters students. The program fee was implemented in the Fall 2003.

2.        Calif.Los Angeles — Cost for full-degree was reported per year.  The information was double for the 2 year program by the authors.

3.        Dalhousie — Cost for full-degree was reported per year.  The data were doubled for the two year degree by the authors.

4.        Illinois — Based on Fall, Spring, Summer I and II semester enrollment.  Reported campus values and LEEP values.  Campus values were used in the table.  LEEP values are based on 10 units of course work at per unit cost and fees (40 semester hour equivalent).

5.        Indiana — MLS (Master of Library Science) = 36 hours.

6.        Kentucky — At the University of Kentucky, during fall and spring semesters, a graduate student may take as few as 9 credit hours or as many as 15 credit hours and ay the one amount of tuition and fees for full-time enrollment. For fall 2002 and spring 2003 the amount per semester is $2,173.25 for in-state residents and $5,782.25 for out-of-state residents. During the 2 summer terms combined, a graduate student may take as many as 12 credit hours, which the typical student does who wishes to complete the 36-credit-hour program in 12 months. For the 1st summer session 2003, a student was permitted to take a maximum of 3 credit hours and was charged on a per-credit-hour basis, $277.40 in-state and $628.40 out-of-state. During the 2nd summer session 2003, a student was permitted to take a maximum of 9 credit hours for which the student paid $1,145.40 in-state or $3,150.40 out-of-state. To arrive at the reported figures for total cost of a degree – 36 credit hours – there is the assumption that the student would be enrolled full-time for 12 credit hours for fall 2002, 12 credit hours for spring 2003, and 12 credit hours for summer 2003.

7.        Michigan — In-state tuition first credit = $989, additional credit = $674; out-of-state tuition first credit = $1,714, additional credit = $1,399.

8.        Pratt — Full degree costs based on full-time study for 4 semesters, not including health insurance.  Costs will vary depending on number of semesters needed to complete degree.  All Courses are at least 3 credits.  Specific fees:  application fee:  domestic $40., International $90; Activity fee: $43 per term; Academic facilities/technology fee:  $250 per  term;  health insurance:  $322 per term (student with other insurance may waive); Late payment fees: $50 to $150 depending on lateness; Cancellation fee: $250; Readmission fee: $40; and Leave of absence fee: $15.

9.        San Jose — Reported a range. The low value of the range was used in this table. High value is full degree: In-state - $9,030, Out-of-state - $11,844; One credit: In-state: $215, Out-of-state: $282.
