Biographical Information

Julie Hurd has been active in ASIS for many years on the local and national levels. She serves as Chapter Assembly Director and participates in program planning for SIG/STI (Scientific and Technical Information). She also serves on the Membership Committee and on the Leadership Development Committee. Her research interests in scientific communication and scientists' use of information grew out of her academic training in chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago and a Masters degree in library science from the same institution. She has worked in science libraries and taught in library schools and is currently Associate Professor, Head of the Science Library, and Coordinator of Digital Library Planning at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
