Welcome

Welcome to the National Network of Health Libraries (NNHL) concept development website. Health Canada has commissioned the development of a concept paper to show the value of a national network of health libraries, to clearly define stakeholder benefits and to recommend strategies upon which to proceed.. Deadline for submission of the concept paper is November 18, 1998. The site was set up in September 1998 to facilitate information sharing among members of the Canadian health library and information community.

The development team for the concept paper includes principal investigator Joanne Marshall, Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto; Jim Henderson, Director, Medical Library Service, College of Physicians & Surgeons of BC and a Resource Group organized by the Canadian Health Libraries Association / Association des bibliothèques de la santé du Canada. The Resource Group is chaired by Lois Wyndham, past president of CHLA/ABSC. Penney Kirby has been contracted to act as research associate and webmaster for the project.

During the course of the developing the paper, we will contact various stakeholders to discuss the concept of the NNHL. We are interested in exploring collaborations with stakeholders and in talking about the ways in which the network, which builds on resources and services provided by the existing health sciences libraries in the country, can best meet the needs of Canadians. We will also gather a variety of national and international documents to inform the process, some of which will be linked to this website. Please email us suggestions for WWW links and relevant documents. We welcome ongoing dialogue about the NNHL concept through the discussion section of the website and we invite you to participate in this exciting opportunity!
