Usability Assessment
Outline
INLS 62
Outline a plan of action to assess the effectiveness of the
website you are creating for your term project.
Note that you will not have time to fully implement this plan. You should think about the things we have discussed
thus far this semester such as usability, universal access, and design
effectiveness. Chapter 4 of the textbook
should be especially helpful as you develop your plan. The plan should include attention to things
such as:
- The
set of specific questions you aim to answer (e.g., Can people find a
specific unit of information easily?; How satisfied are users with the
results of their interactions? Does
the site serve the full community of potential users?)
- What
kind(s) of investigations do your propose?
(e.g., Expert critique? User
study? ) For each investigation specify:
- who will be involved (number of people and how they
will be recruited)?
- what specific tasks will done?
- what data will be collected (e.g., time to completion,
number of errors, satisfaction, etc.)?
- how and where will the data be collected (e.g., in
lab, in user’s place of work, etc.) and how long will it take?
- what will you do with the data? (both how will
you analyze and summarize the data AND how will the results be used in
the future?)
