INLS 310

Day 10

3/23/99

1. DL Presentations

Jim & Richard

2. Interoperation (see Stanford readings)

3. AFP Update

    1. Lunsford
    2. Get clarification on exactly what we can put up in the AFP…all the music? The text?

If this is a major AFP theme, we need some Lunsford supplementary materials---photos, news stories, biography, pointers to festivals

    3. North Carolina Language and Life Project
    4. The spoken samples are great but need some commentary/translation

A map with hot spots as interface would be ideal way to explore

An interview with Walt Wolfram would be a nice addition

What other contextualizing content can we add?

    5. Louis Armstrong Concert in Memorial Hall
    6. We should put up the interview with Armstrong and work on finding out who did the interview

We can put up four articles in Daily Tar Heel (April 6, 1954 announcing his appearance; May 1, giving background on Armstrong; May 8, the day of concert; and May 9, a reflection/review piece).

We need some background pieces to contextualize this…

    7. Pee Wee Moore

If we can get interview, this could be the focal point for the Armstrong concert?

    1. The James "Shout" Smith audiotape from the Southern Folklife Collection is questionable as a major theme. Who is/was this guy? The hambone samples are worth putting up if we have some other background on this content
