One Minute Papers

Big Point

There may be a lot of emotional “baggage” behind a reference request

Systems should be user-oriented

User-oriented trend rather than system-orientation

People are the most complex and interesting part of any info system

People choose info based on perceived accessibility (note accessibility can be physical and conceptual)

US libraries are much more user –oriented than other libraries—be proud!

Questions

How to make people feel comfortable in question asking?

What do UNC libraries do to improve user comfort?

What research is underway to understand user needs?

How can we (can we?) quantify human factors issues?

Are we designing libs/info systems to serve an info elite?

What are the best practices of libs and how can we learn from them?

What are the roles of reference librarians in future?

Want more discussion on making info accessible to variety of users

More on physical dimensions of systems—e.g., lib architecture

Will I have a job—yes!  How to make libs/sys easier—study Disney
