One Minute Papers

Big Point

Many diverse opportunities for our field

Info design is a team effort

Info units are becoming less discrete

Like physical architecture, ID must balance form and function

I “get” the purpose of the midterm project!

Questions

How much new technology will we need to keep up with? Also, how to deal with skill turnover in MLS/MSIS?

How to balance info needs with entertainment with ads?  (will annoying banner ads be replaced with slick video commercials)?  Too much like TV? (replace? Merge?)

Is it too late to get into ‘this’ field?

How do X (e.g., medical professionals) take advantage of new media/methods/tools?

What are the top 3 skills a SILS grad who wants to be a webmaster have? (Level 1 answer: skill to learn/manage change, skill to express ideas clearly in multiple media, skill to solve info mgmt problems creatively; Level 2 answer: code at different levels of abstraction, DBMS backend, identify and evaluate user needs)

In a world where ‘flow’ takes precedence over other properties of info, will the role of info organization increase or decrease?
