    Many defs of communication

    Sending a message does not ensure communication; Communication occurs when one gets feedback;

    Disagreement with above (that might be EFFECTIVE communication, but too constraining)

    Meaning is constructed in mind of receiver

    Communication depends on characteristics of source, way message transmitted, chars of the receiver

    Communication dependent on interest of receiver

    Common thoughts are more important than common language (Pierce)

    Info is the amount of uncertainty in the SOURCE

    SILS has lots of information—huge variety (uncertainty in choosing one point of view or teaching to one knowledge base) in student interests, backgrounds, knowledge, etc.
