Day 13
10/5/98

Return style guide structure assignment: 10 is extraordinary; 9 is excellent; 8 is good; 7 is adequate: main interests; structure description, pros and cons

Main reason for style guides: support COMMunication (COMMonality, consistency)
a) reader:  improve understanding; locate sources
b) author: proper punctuation, spelling, grammar etc. ; insure completeness; organize & present; place in literature
c) system: assist reviewers/editors/typesetters; fit into larger comm syste

Many styles: use ProCite, Endnotes, etc.

Implications of electronic publications: how to handle URLs? Why not both instead of number vs alpha? How many indexes should we have (e.g., APA gives page number and section); colored tabs; BACK links from citations to text
