Unix is a multi-user, multitasking operating system
The Internet grew up around Unix as TCP/IP was first widely implemented under Unix
Most “servers” on the Internet are Unix based
We are showing you Unix because that is what we use for our Web and mail server
To create Web documents later in the week you will use this server for publishing the pages
