Each server is not necessarily a different “box”
One piece of hardware may provide multiple services.
- It may be a file and print server, a CD-ROM server, and even a Web and FTP server “all in one”. It’s the software you install that determines the “services”.
Alternatively, network managers may install more than one “box” to divide the tasks among multiple machines. This can improve performance and/or enhance security
- e.g. A Web server might run on a different box than your file server
