LIS 450RRL: GRANTWRITING AND FUNDRAISING

NEED STATEMENT, OBJECTIVES, AND EVALUATION ASSIGNMENT

(for 1/2 credit students)

Summer 2001

Assignment Due: July 11

For this assignment, please follow the guidelines given for The Needs Statement, Goal and Objectives Assignment for those taking it for one credit. Simplifying directions are given below.

Your main task is to develop a letter proposal that will be only 2-3 pages long. The needs statement, objectives and method of evaluating whether and how well the objectives have been achieved will be a substantial part of your letter but should not be more than a page and a half altogether. Thus you need to be succinct and to the point in this assignment (which will become a part of your letter). The following length guidelines may be helpful:

Needs Statement. Plan to provide two to four paragraphs describing the need. Be as specific as possible and avoid broad generalizations with no supporting data. This section will probably be about a page in length double-spaced.

Objectives. Because your project will probably be on the small side, after stating your goal, one objective may be sufficient -- certainly no more than two.

Evaluation Plan. Describe in one paragraph how you will demonstrate if (and/or how well) you have achieved your objective(s) at the end of the project. If you have written your objectives carefully, this will be simple. The objectives and evaluation plan together should be about a half-page in length.

Provide a note at the top of your paper stating your organizational context. You may wish to indent the objective(s) for readability.

Although this assignment is not due until July 11, you may want to get a little feedback earlier. I and your classmates will be happy to oblige whenever you or your partner gives us the URL for your SiteEdit page or whenever you post a specific question to the WebBoard. One or more of your classmates will use your final submission as the basis for writing reviewer's comments.
