About the Course. This is a required class for both theoretical and practical reasons. A theoretical understanding of how communications takes place in society and in the work place is essential background knowledge for well-informed information professionals.

The SILS faculty believe also that all graduates of the school must demonstrate a high level of communication skill in the following activities:

  1. reading critically, writing professionally,
  2. presenting ideas formally,
  3. leading a group effectively,
  4. contributing effectively to a group,
  5. and negotiating successfully.
