Case Study: SCORE! EDUCATIONAL CENTERS (A)

There are several interesting issues for us to examine in this case study: motivation and retention of employees for one, concerns about financial management is another, marketing and positioning the company is a third. Use the first session on the case study to familiarize yourself with the cast of characters, the events, and the issues.

Consider whether you have worked anywhere or are otherwise familiar with any organizations similar to SCORE. What was your experience?

Provide your initial reactions to the case. How do you see the major issues confronting the company? Are there decisions to be made? What are the tensions? Do you see any places where the experience of Alan Tripp or the other staff members relates to a library or systems environment?

Remember, an alternative to a portfolio entry for this session (or another one) is to post your experiences in delegating or being delegated to to the Discussion Forum on Delegation.

Also, when you turn in your portfolios for the second time, please include your prior submission with my notes so I can pick up where I left off. If you decide to add new material, perhaps in response to my notes (not a requirement but some will wish to), make sure it's clear that it is NEW material. If you submitted your portfolio through a URL, you can do that again but please also give me the printouts with my comments that I gave you. Thanks.
