CRITIQUE OF COLLEAGUE'S RESEARCH PAPER DRAFT
![]() | Due Oct. 8, 1996 |
Anticipated Length: Notes on paper plus 1-2 typescript
pages.
Description of the Assignment. On or about Sept. 26, 1996, you will be given an anonymous draft of a research paper written by a member of your class. Read it carefully -- once for content and understanding and again for closer and more critical scrutiny of details.
From your experience in writing your own paper, consider how you might advise the author to strengthen his/her proposal, where sections might be improved. Don't hesitage to make pen changes or written comments in the margins of the paper. In particular, typos or spelling errors, grammar and punctuation errors, awkward sentences and/or questionable word choices, etc. should be noted directly on the paper itself.
From the posture of a reviewer for a research or professional journal in the LIS field, write a 1-2 page critique of the draft paper. Comment on what you think is good (and why) and on what you think can be improved (and how). Be as specific as possible with your suggestions but be kind and helpful in tone.
Turn in two copies of your critique -- one with your name and the other without a ;name but affixed to the draft paper you have critiqued. I will grade your review and will turn your anonymous critique over to the colleague whose paper you read for his/her possible use. This is a double blind assessment. You will not learn through me or the draft whose paper you are reading; the person who receives your critique will not learn through me or the review who wrote the critique.
Remember to phrase your comments in a kindly and helpful member. Also remember to be specific in giving feedback. The more specific you are with your criticisms, the stronger paper your classmate will be able to produce for his/her finished product.
