Monday January 22 – Mary Meeker’s 2017 Internet Trends

Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers partner Mary Meeker delivers her annual internet trends report. She says “easy growth is behind us” as the newest internet users are coming from less developed and less affluent countries. Meeker also delves into artificial intelligence, Snapchat brand integrations, changes to live sports viewing habits, car industry innovation and the rise of millennial consumers, among many other topics. The Re:Code conference, which hosted her presentation, provides copies of 355 her slides, a video of presentation, and some analysis. Topics among the findings she reports include: global smartphone growth (or not), voice interfaces, Netflix vs TV, gaming, China, India, US Tech founders, and healthcare.

Assignment – Due noon Monday January 22 – view Meeker’s talk at Re:Code (about 30 minutes of fast talking), look through her slides, note the summaries, and reflect on how her view of technology trends will change your work and life in the near term, in the long run.
