Course Objectives

At the end of this course, students should...

  • understand many of the broader ethical, physical, political, cultural, and economic constraints to providing information access to the underserved.

  • develop a rubric for assessing programs and projects that address the current disparities.

  • apply this knowledge and rubric to several past, present, or planned programs.

Expectations

  • Attend classes

  • Complete all assignments and exercises by the due date

  • Contribute to the class as a professional

  • Participate in class discussions and exercises; work in groups and independently

Assignments

  • Attendance is the best way to master the ideas, meet visiting professionals, and network with your colleagues. 

  • Participation in classroom discussions and the forum is the best way to demonstrate that you have done the readings.  (Discussing the readings...)

  • You will be assigned to a small group to develop a rubric for project evaluation and present your group's work to the class for feedback. 

  • Each student will employ the rubric to evaluate three Last Mile projects (in class Wiki) and present their results to the class.

  • A final essay gives you the opportunity to synthesize your work and demonstrate your mastery of the topics.

Letter grades will be assigned as follows:
