- Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standards Association
- Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society (ISA) - ANSI-accredited industry organization representing the interests of quality, safety, and productivity of measurement and control systems and equipment
- International Color Consortium - promotes and encourages the standardization and evolution of an open, vendor-neutral, cross-platform color management system architecture and components
- InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) - mission is to produce market-driven, voluntary consensus standards in the area of Information Technology
- Internet Architecture Board (IAB) - responsible for defining the overall architecture of the Internet, providing guidance and broad direction to the IETF. The IAB also serves as the technology advisory group to ISOC and adjudicates appeals when someone complains that the IESG has failed. Chartered by ISOC.
- Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) - central coordinator and clearinghouse for the assignment of unique parameter values for Internet protocols
- Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) - non-profit corporation that was formed to take over responsibility for the IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, domain name system management, and root server system management functions now performed under U.S. Government contract by IANA and other entities.
- Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG) - responsible for technical management of IETF activities and the Internet standards process. As part of the ISOC, it administers the process according to the rules and procedures which have been ratified by the ISOC Trustees. The IESG is directly responsible for the actions associated with entry into and movement along the Internet "standards track," including final approval of specifications as Internet Standards. Chartered by ISOC.
- Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) - protocol engineering and development arm of the Internet. Actual technical work is carried out through its approximately 115 working groups, largely through their mailing lists. Members of the IETF are individuals, not organizations. The IETF holds meetings three times per year, which are open to the general public.
- Internet Research Steering Group (IRSG)
- Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) - To promote research of importance to the evolution of the future Internet by creating focused, long-term and small Research Groups working on topics related to Internet protocols, applications, architecture and technology. The IRTF is composed of several Research Groups and is managed by the IRTF Chair in consultation with the Internet Research Steering Group (IRSG).
