Federal Librarianship panel - October 1st, 2009 from 5:00-8:00pm

SCALA along with SLA are bringing you a panel disucssion and recruitment opportunity on Federal Librarianship. Presenters will be:

It's the beginning of a new year,

and a new group of SILSters. We here in SCALA would like to welcome all the newcomers to Chapel Hill, the University, and of course, Manning Hall. If anyone has a question about anything, Jon, Maggie, Wake, Claire or I would love to help. Now get to studying!

I scream, you scream, we all scream. . . for ice cream socials!

The end of the semester bring a relief of no more classes, sure, there are exams, but why not push that to the back of your mind: and enjoy some ice cream. The Student Chapter of the American Library Association offered tired and wore out students ice cream with all the fixin's. Things took a small turn for disaster when the SILS freezer defrosted the ice cream*, but Maggie came to the rescue with more. Here are some images of the grand ol' time had by all.

* - Beware of the Manning/SILS refrigerator, the freezer will not keep ice cream frozen!!

2008 ALA "Student to Staff" Winner Announced!

Congratulations to Lisa Gregory, this year's UNC-SILS "Student to Staff" representative at the ALA Annual Conference this summer in Anaheim, CA. Lisa was chosen for the strength of her essay detailing the reasons she wants to be a part of this year's ALA Annual Conference.

In being chosen to serve in the "Student to Staff" program, Lisa's conference registration has been paid and she has been awarded a housing and transportation stipend. She will also receive a small per diem in exchange for a total of 20 hours of work during the conference. We are excited that such a great candidate (and a terrific person) has been selected to represent us in Anaheim, and we know that it will be a great conference for everyone who attends.

Please visit ALA's website for more information on the Annual Conference, and learn more about the "Student to Staff" program here.
