Saudi Arabian Culture

Assalaamu Alaikum!!

This arabic saying means "Peace be upon you." This greeting is usually given between males and follows by kissing the right and left cheek (as shown in the picture) along with a handshake.
Saudi Arabian attire consists of a long thobe and gutra (headpiece). The white thobe is used during the summer while the black one is used during the winter.
Women dress very conservatively in Saudi Arabia because they are following religious instruction from the Qur'an to be modest. Men and women are not permitted to attend public events together and are segregated in the workplace. Women are also forbidden to drive.

Arabic Music and dancing are an integral part of the Arabic culture. Usually men are the only ones permitted to dance in these ceremonies.

Bedouin jewelry is usually very intricately patterned silver with torquoise or other precious stones. Women usually only wear this jewelry for special occasions or ceremonies and not out in public because this would draw too much attention. The Arabian horse (pictured below) has served to be a symbol of Saudi Arabia for many years. Clicking on the horse will send you back to the history page.

These are the more modern images of Saudi.

One of my favorite Arabic foods is swarma. This product is made from beef or chicken and placed in a pita with vegetables and garlic sauce. YUM YUM!
After eating a swarma you might want to use the natural Arab toothbrush called the miswak. This natural stick from a tree will not only freshen your breath but also prevents against plaque!
