Week 1   August 20th ~Introduction to the class

Week 3   September 3rd ~Operating Systems, an overview.  UNIX Fundamentals, Basic file manipulation, your first Web page(HTML creation, tags, main components, body, title, paragraphs and headings.  UNIX file editing with Pico. )
Read Chapter 2.  ATN's documentation on campus Web services at  http://www.unc.edu/campus/aboutweb/. Especially Personal Web Page Guidelines and Creating Web pages at UNC.  Also, review ATN's UNIX: Getting Started
Week 4   September 10th To do:  subscribe to the class mailing list.  Send an email message to lyris@lyris.unc.edu, with the subject line blank and message:  subscribe inls080 Your Name where "Your Name" is your real name.
To do: before class, confirm you have your UNC Onyen(aka Isis)(you must know the password and username) via help.unc.edu.
Read Chapter 3.  How the Internet Works.  Business Culture and the Internet.  Using PINE and Pico in lab.  HTML editors(Pico, Notepad and Composer).
Week 5   September 17th Finish Reading Chapters 2 and 3.  Review UNIX commands and how to use FTP.  See Chapter 6 in text for FTP and Remote login.    More HTML: Hyperlinks . 
Week 6   September 24th Read Chapter 4- Web Presentation.   Discussion of Web Writing Styles and Web Presentation.  Online Literature Review is due: October 1, 2002  Class discussion of reviews.  More HTML: background colors, fonts, comments, ...
Week 7   October 1st Class discussion of Table formation. View class online notes. Read all Dreamweaver handouts and assigned web materials. Introduction to Dreamweaver with Kirk Baker.
Week 8   October 8th Read Chapter 5-Search Engines and how they work.    ***Dreamweaver-Part 2: Layout with Tables and Frames on Tuesday, October 8th with Kirk Baker. 
Week 9   October 15th
(Fall Break begins 10/17) 
Table formation and search engines notes.  Thursday meet in lab to work on Assignment 2.  Dreamweaver presentation.
Week 10  October 22nd Fall Break through Oct. 23. Note: we will meet on Thursday, October 24th.
Week 11  October 29th Tuesday, October 29th-Midterm handed out(due Tuesday, November 5th). Assignment 2 due on Thursday.  Third assignment defined.
Week 12  November 5th Read Chapter 8 on Web Graphics/Scanning and image formats for the Web: JPEG, GIF etc.  Scanning group presentation.  Bring photos to scan to class on Thursday.
Week 13  November 12th Read Chapter 9-Advanced HTML: forms and frames etc.  Advanced HTML group presentation this week.  Thursday, November 14th will be a "work in lab on Assignment 3- Group presentations" day.  Be prepared to hand in proposal ideas for Final Assignment on Tuesday, Nov. 19th. 
Week 14  November 19th - 26th
(Thanksgiving Break 11/27 - 12/2)
Advanced Dreamweaver and DHTML group presentations on Tuesday, November 19th.   Read Chapter 13-Multimedia.  Multimedia group presentation on Thursday, November 21st.  Work in lab on Third assignment both Tuesday and Thursday. Javascript group presentation on Tuesday, November 26th.
Week 15  December 3rd Note: Third assignment is due on Tuesday, December 3rd. Have one member of your group prepare to show the class your web work. If you need help on your final web pages, plan to meet with me this week.
Also, Final Exam Presentations begin on December 3rd. See Listserv message for your chosen date.  
Week 16  December 10th Work in lab on final assignments.
Week 17th December 17th Presentations of Web Pages.
