The Project on Ethnic Relations (PER) was founded in 1991 in anticipation
of the serious interethnic conflicts that were to erupt following the collapse
of communism. The PER is dedicated to preventing ethnic conflict in Central
and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the former Soviet Union. PER strategies
include providing neutral auspices for dialogues among government officials,
opposition leaders, and representatives of ethnic groups seeking solutions
to interethnic disputes. They also assist in the development of national and
local institutions to deal with ethnic conflicts and work one on one with
groups such as the Roma and the Slovaks.
Czech Helsinki Committee

The Helsinki Committee was established in 1987 by a group of dissidents, mostly
from Charter 77, to monitor the implementation within the Czechoslovak legal
system of internationally accepted human rights principles and conventions.
After the split of the Czechoslovak Republic, the CHC benefits from its consultative
status with the Council of Europe, and associates with Helsinki committees
from the many member countries of the International Helsinki Federation for
Human Rights based in Vienna. The Committee also focuses on specific ethnic
groups such as the Roma.

was setup by Ivan Veselý and Klára Samková-Veselý on 18th January 1994. Their
aim is to associate citizens, mostly of Romany nationality, who want to help
their nation. The Dzeno Association supports the development and renewal of
the traditional values and characteristics among the Romany regardless of
