Street Media

In the period of glasnost and perestroika (1985-1991), the look of Soviet city streets began to change. Where red stars and party slogans once dominated the view, advertising began to appear. Now, the remnants of communist slogans have faded, and advertising dominates the scene.

The photographs on the next pages illustrate the combination of old and new media now visible on Russian city streets.
