Book & Journal Covers

It all began with those darned journal covers--the many varied, artistic, COOL(!) images of the Statue of Liberty I collected in the early '90s, during my work as the Serials Coordinator at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. No, I didn't rip off the covers! Well, not until their retention period ended anyway! And for those issues permanent to the holdings at NSU I made color copies. From here the collection escalated into 3-D ojbects of all shapes and sizes.

Later, as a Master of American Studies, it was only fitting that I so deeply identified with what has become the most recognizable symbol for American.

Here is one of my favorite journal covers. The New Yorker never lets me down, with at least 2 great Liberty covers each year.

I was thrilled when a Liberty collector gave me this book! Artist Hudson Talbott has created many cards featuring Lady L "off her throne," and on the streets of New York. His Liberty Christmas cards are sold at Bloomingdale's, NYC.

This book gives Lady L. a rest from holding that torch all day as she goes on a tour of the country she symbolizes. Great images of The Lady doing favorite American passtimes like going to a baseball game, baking apple pie, going on a picnic, riding a horse, snow skiing, and impersonating celebrities.
