Includes Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and RTP areas. Chapters include organizing
the job search, preparing resumes, getting the interview, salary negotiation, and cover
letters. Selected companies are profiled on pages 247-290, and trade associations on pages

The National Jobline Directory (1994)
Lists over 2,000 private and public sector employers that post jobs by phone.
Joblines are indexed alphabetically, by state, and by industry.

Professional's Job Finder 1997-2000 (1997)
Contains over 3,000 job search tools. Each chapter contains resources for a
specific industry or sector (business, education, health care) and includes resources on
how to find job ads, job services directories, and salary surveys. Job sources are also
listed by state.

Job Hunter's Sourcebook, 3rd Ed. (1996)
Part 1: Sources of job hunting information (i.e., help-wanted ads, handbooks,
placement services) by profession/occupation.
Part 2: Sources of essential job hunting information (reference works, newspapers,
journals and trade publications, online databases, software). Includes a comprehensive
list of online services to find a job (page 770).

The World Almanac Job Finder's Guide 1997 (1996)
Includes chapters on resume writing, annual earnings surveys, industry
overviews, and job hunting in cyberspace. A good overview source.

Profiles 500 American employers, listed in alphabetically by name. Includes

Profiles 7,000 U.S. employers. Includes chapters on career outlooks by
occupation, job search strategies, federal jobs, and employers by industry. Each profiled

The Guide to Internet Job Searching (1996)
A bit outdated, but a useful listing of employment-related Web sites, as well
as sites that are industry specific.

Outdoor Careers (1992)
Profiles careers in agriculture, science, conservation, and recreation (among others).
Includes profiles of people working in various outdoor careers, and includes a job search
section.
Web Resources
There are many, many resources available on the Web related to the job search. Those
listed below have exceptional Web sites that offer a wealth of information related to the
job search.
New York Times
Internet Guide "Job Market Navigator" - includes links to many Web-based job
search sites. These sites usually allow you to post a resume, as well as conduct keyword
searches for open positions. Some sites include:

classifieds section is a fantastic way to search for a job, compare cost of living in
different parts of the U.S., and browse employment ads for 50+ metropolitan areas. Also
includes salary surveys by industry, and industry and company profiles.

Federal Jobs Digest
The library subscribes to the print version of the Federal
Jobs Digest, which is also available on the Web. Federal Jobs Digest publishes a list
on the Web (updated daily) of federal
job openings in North Carolina.
The Directory of Federal Jobs and Employers (1996)
Contact information on specific federal agencies.

America's Job Bank
Create and save a resume, look for jobs and view labor statistics at this site, which is a
partnership between the US Department of Labor and the state operated public Employment
Service. Some government jobs, and some private sector positions.
Cool Works
Listing of jobs available at state and national parks, as well as private sector employers
like cruise lines, ski resorts, ranches, and camps.

Interviews
The library has a comprehensive collection of books in its collection related to
interviewing, resume writing, cover letters, and job searching. These materials are
located in the Business and Career Section Stacks, under the Call #s 650.1 through 650.14.
Triangle Jobs.Com has some helpful tips on resumes, sample resumes, cover letters, sample cover letters, interviewing, types of interviews, and sample "thank you" letters.

assist in a job search. Web links are provided to employment pages of those papers that
have employment classifieds on the Web. Papers marked by an * do not have
classified pages on the Web; a general link to the publication has been provided. For
newspapers not listed below, use this link to find all newspapers in the
United States (listed by State) that have Web sites, or all newspapers in North Carolina
that have Web pages (listed by city). Then, look for employment classified links
within each newspaper Web site.
The Sunday edition of many of the newspapers listed below contain the employment
classifieds. Please ask at the Adult Services desk for the most recent employment section
of the newspapers. The library retains back issues for approximately 4 weeks.
