An iron tsuba. Maru gata (round). Front of the tsuba has low relief image of a shishi (lion-dog) emerging from a rock face. The shishi is carefully defined with flowing hair, pointy claws and teeth, and spotted hide. The rock has small vertical chiseling to indicate grain. The reverse depicts another rock face with waterfall. Signed Choshu Mitsuyuki saku. 7.5 cm. |

Ji sukashi (open pierce work) tsuba in the form of a sun burst or wheel with a diamond forming the kogai hitsuana. Shoami, early 17th century. 7 cm. |
