Resources for Developing Worship

Lectionary Readings -This site, put together by Vanderbilt Library, offers a look at the lectionary passages for the liturgical year. A link provides easy accessibiliy to Bible verses from the lectionary passages that week (the New Revised Standard Version). At the bottom of this site is a link to the listing of colors for the liturgical year. Also associated with the home page for this lectionary is a link to a weekly commentary on the lectionary passages for the week. The site, Lectionary Commentary, is supplied by an Anglican minister named Alan T Perry.

The Book of Confessions Here lies all the confessions of the Presbyterian Church (USA) in an electronic format. The format is well done, though the author is still working with the Second Helvetic Confession because of its size. You can still dowload it as a zip file if you wish.

Culwee Liturgy Page This collection of prayers is from sites for the Orthodox Church. These prayers might be helpful in building the Lord's Day service or special services. Orthodox Prayers - This site offers a list of prayers ranging from some of the early fathers to prayers for services. Prayers and Thanksgiving - This site is a collection of many small prayers that could be used for building the "Prayers of the People." The Great Litany - is comprehensive prayer for the world and its people. You might want to use this for one of your own services. Daily Morning Prayer, Daily Evening Prayer - A list of orthodox morning and evening prayers.

Cyber Hymnal - A list of the most popular hymns for both seeing and hearing. You need to have the Midi file plug-in for your browser to hear these hymns, but don't let that stop you. You can get that through with the real audio plug-in. This is a well done page where you can get a brief overview of the hymn and and use use the words.

Directory of Hymns- A list of hymns and hymn writers exist in this gopher file. You can search for the hymn you want electronically or scan throught the alphabetical listing. A special advantage of this file is that once you have chosen a hymn you can see the words of the hymn or hear the hymn sung if you have downloaded the software called Real Audio.

United Methodist Hymnal - You can chose to see or hear the hymns. Of course you must have a Midi file player such as Real Audio to hear the hymns and you must have QuickScore to see the hymns.

Baptist Hymnal - The coloring format is imediately distasteful to view, but this is still a nice collection of Midi files that need Real Audio so that you can hear the hymns.

Luthern Hymnal - A collection of almost 700 hymns that can be downloaded as zip files. This collection is also "Midi files" that need Real Audio.

Hymns by John Wesley - A Collection of Hymns, For the Use of the people called Methodist. By the Rev. John Wesley, 1889. This online version of his hymns is a large file (1187k) that is not placed into individual folders. Be prepared for a long download while you are viewing the text. The advantage of the online version is the option to search for words electronically. Hymns by Charles_Wesley - This is a list of the some of the hymns by Charles Wesley.
