Lake Swim Area Operating Under Restricted Schedule

RALEIGH - The lake swim area at Hanging Rock State Park in Stokes County will be open only on weekends for the remainder of August, according to the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation. The restricted schedule is due to the unavailability of seasonal employees, including lifeguards.

The swim area will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 28. The lake's refreshment stand will remain open throughout the week until Aug. 28. Lake facilities will be closed on Labor Day weekend.

"We are hopeful that we can find replacement lifeguards and reopen the swim area during weekdays and for Labor Day weekend," said Park Superintendent Erik Nygard. "Ranger Austin Paul would be willing to consider responsible and enthusiastic applicants at least 16 years old who possess both CPR and lifeguard certifications."

Visitors unsure about lake operating hours are invited to call the park at 336-593-8480.
