DAVIDSON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM
All users of the public access computers in the Davidson County
Public Library System must agree to abide
by the following rules.
1. The computers are for use by anyone at no charge, during regular
library hours. Children under the age of
five must be accompanied by an adult at the computer.
2. Reserving Computer Time for word processing, spreadsheets, resumes, etc.:
a. The computer may be reserved for 1 hour intervals up to 2 hours
per day per person, unless no one is
waiting.
b. Computer time may be reserved one day in advance. (An exception
is made for reserving times on Monday
which may be scheduled on the preceding Friday or Saturday).
c. Users with appointments will take precedence over walk-ins.
d. Those who are more than ten minutes late for their reserved
time for using a computer may lose their place
to walk-in users.
e. Users must have some knowledge of how to use a computer and
wordprocessing.
3. Use of the Computer with multimedia or other educational software:
a. The computer may be reserved and used for 15 minute intervals
up to 30 minutes per day, unless no one is
waiting.
b. Computer time may be reserved one day in advance. (An exception
is made for reserving times on
Monday, which may be scheduled on Friday or Saturday.)
c. Users with appointments will take precedence over walk-ins.
d. Computer users who are more than ten minutes late for a reserved
time may lose their scheduled times to
walk-in users.
e. Users must request and sign for one CD at a time with a library staff member.
f. Each user is responsible for ensuring that each CD is returned
to a library staff member who will note the
return.
4. Computer Care:
a. New users must have a brief orientation or demonstrate to the
staff that they can use the computer
correctly.
b. Users must check-in at the desk where the computer is located
before beginning their computing session
and must check out, returning any borrowed software (or CDs),
when finished.
c. A user who borrows software (or CDs) from the library, accepts
responsibility for the item while in his
possession. Library owned software is not to be taken from the
library.
d. A user who brings his own software program to run on the computer
must be able to run it from his or her
floppy disk and be able to ensure that it is virus-free. The
library staff must check all disks must be scanned for
viruses before they are used. The program cannot be copied onto
the hard disk to run.
e. Diskettes are available for purchase at the Reference Desk
for $1.00 each. Please do not save anything to
the hard drive.
f. Users are expressly FORBIDDEN to copy library-owned commercial
software. The library will make every
effort to abide by copyright restrictions in the use of software.
Patrons violating this rule will lose their computer
use privileges.
g. No arcade-type games (like Solitaire and others available in
the Microsoft Entertainment pack, etc.) will
be allowed at any time.
h. Only the scheduled user and one other person are permitted
