PROFESSIONAL FIELD EXPERIENCE

VIII. COURSE REQUIREMENTS

NOTE: The Field Experience may be repeated once for an additional 3 credits (maximum of 6). If a second Field Experience is undertaken, it must be conducted at a different site than the first experience and should represent a different type of work experience. All course requirements apply to each 3-credit Field Experience.

  1. Negotiate a Field Experience Agreement with the Site Supervisor and with the Faculty Supervisor before beginning work. A carefully written agreement can be the key to a successful field experience. The agreement should list goals and objectives in areas of activity or as special projects. Refer to Appendices 1-2 for suggestions on how to make this a professional learning contract. It is expected that the Site Supervisor and Faculty Supervisor will have input on the objectives.
  2. Work a minimum of 115 hours at the site location.
  3. Complete a paper reflecting the relationship of the specific work experience to general principles; scope and content to be determined by the Faculty Supervisor.
  4. Attend 3 consecutive sessions of the required FE seminar. See Appendix 3.
  5. Complete two progress reports on the FEA objectives at 20- and 60-hour intervals. Goals and objectives may be revised or added to, subject to Site and Faculty Supervisor approval.
  6. Meet with the Site Supervisor to review his/her final evaluation.
  7. Meet with the Faculty Supervisor to review the paper, the site evaluation and for a final academic assessment.
  8. Complete student evaluation and turn in to FE Coordinator’s mailbox. After all other requirements have been satisfied, the FE Coordinator will assess the total experience.

ALL requirements must be met in a timely fashion
for 3 credits to be earned.
