The "invitation" email (pdf) was sent to approximately 8,334 UNC faculty and staff at 10:00 pm Tuesday, September 10, 2002. From this mailing, 135 emails were returned due to errors, undeliverable addresses, or other "permanent fatal errors". We received several emails expressing interest in the project and willingness to participate.

The "survey" email (pdf) was sent to UNC Faculty and Staff around 10:00 pm on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002. Participants were invited to either reply to the survey email or complete the survey online through a web form.

A slightly modified version of the invitation email was sent to the approximately 17,327 email addresses at Duke University on September 24, 2002. From this mailing we received 151 "out of office" responses; 792 returned emails due to errors, undeliverable addresses, or other "permanent fatal errors"; and about 15 responses inquiring for more information about the project.

The survey email was sent to the same Duke email addresses on September 26, 2002.

The data collection was completed on October 31, 2002. At this point we had received 3835 survey responses.
