There is one primary assignment in the class -- becoming an expert on a relevant topic of your choice. You will demonstrate your developing expertise through three separate but connected assignments: a short paper describing your topic at the beginning of the course, a presentation to the class later in the semester with some discussion, and a final term paper. These three activities combined will make up 60% of your grade.

Other assignments include a "getting to know you" mutual interview, written reflections on your readings and responses to those of other class members through entries on a class blog. Class attendance and participation is important and will count for 15% of your grade as well.
